A New Option for Treatment-Resistant Depression

Spravato® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray designed specifically for adults with treatment-resistant depression. Used alongside an oral antidepressant, it offers a unique and powerful way to address depressive symptoms when traditional treatments haven’t provided enough relief.

How Spravato® Works

While most antidepressants work primarily on serotonin, Spravato works on a completely different system in the brain, the glutamate pathway, which plays a key role in mood, resilience, and neural connection.

By targeting this pathway, Spravato may help restore communication between brain cells in a way that conventional medications do not.

Because of its unique mechanism, Spravato is administered only in a certified medical office under careful supervision. Our providers Janel Hillstrom, DNP, FNP, PMHNP and Jalayne Telford, RN, MSN, PMHNP have both received extensive training in the prescription and administration of Spravato and can help answer your questions and provide careful oversight if you receive this powerful treatment.

What to Expect

Spravato is given as a nasal spray in our office, where you’ll be supported by our clinical team throughout the visit.

After each dose:
• You’ll remain in the office for observation (about two hours)
• You’ll need a ride home
• You should plan to rest for the remainder of the day

Treatment begins with a more frequent schedule and gradually spaces out over time based on how you respond to treatment.
