Medication Management

A large part of the role of a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is managing medications. However, not all mental health conditions require medication. We can make this determination based upon your individual preferences, functioning and past experiences. Finding the right medication can take time and adjustments to fine tune. There is genetic testing for psychiatic medications that can be utilized if needed.

We review research and standards that have been developed to have the best results and clinical outcome data to support use of certain medication. Following the guidelines for specific medication is an important facet of illness management. For example, medications that focus on serotonin but do not address the neurochemical deficit for your illness can be harmful. Through proper diagnosis, a working therapeutic relationship and appropriate medication adjustments, mental health can be restored.

** We do not treat substance use disorders or see children under 8 years of age.
