Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

A Non-Medication Treatment for Depression

If you’ve tried antidepressants without the relief you were seeking — or experienced unwanted side effects — TMS may be another option!

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment for depression covered by most insurances! It uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. These areas are often underactive in individuals struggling with depression.

TMS does not require anesthesia or sedation, and you can return to your normal daily activities immediately after each session.

How TMS Works

During treatment, a small magnetic coil is placed lightly against your scalp. The device delivers targeted magnetic pulses that activate nerve cells in the part of the brain that controls mood.

Over time, this stimulation helps 'wake up' parts of your brain that may have been underactive within the brain’s mood networks, which can help alleviate symptoms of depression with long-term results.

What to Expect

• Treatments are completed at the local Brain Health Center
• Sessions typically last about 20–40 minutes
• No anesthesia or recovery time is needed
• Most treatment plans involve sessions 5 days per week for several weeks - it is this consistency that makes such a difference!

Many patients begin to notice improvement within the first few weeks of treatment.
